Article 1 – Women’s March, a female perspective

Women can be together without persecution being triggered so strongly. Now we can really do something.

I had a dream with my mother in it. She was a young woman, likely in her 20’s. Wearing lipstick in a shade that I’m currently wearing, salmon like. With horned rim glasses, and a smart black suit and white shirt, her hair slightly darker than the auburn of her pictures. She was sitting on a bus. So reminiscent of one of the women in the movie Hidden Figures. My mother was a bookkeeper and when I saw the movie there was a gentle reminder of her energy.

In the dream she was happy. This was the real standout. It took me 2 days to realize the power I was feeling from this dream. It was more like a visitation. Just a day after the women’s march, I had to take note. She was happy. Wearing her dreams on her beautiful face, this version of her was full of the potential of her becoming.

My mother’s mother worked in the steel mills of Gary, Indiana. Her mantra to my mother was women were to be seen and not heard, passed on to her no doubt. My mother would mention it to me, not as a suggestion, but sharing with me what she had been told. My grandmother didn’t care for women, and my mother had an easier time with men too. I as well, in my 20’s was more welcomed into the life of my husbands band, than the circle of women surrounding it who threw shade my way.

My mother, Bette, faithfully raised her brother, as my grandmother, Lola, worked the swing shift at the mill. My uncle Terry never receiving anything less than an A+, breezed through Old Miss college, being their most outstanding student – the Woods society of excellence created in his honor, was a Rhode Scholar, then worked in D.C. as a nuclear engineer. Unfortunately he dropped dead of a cerebral hemorrhage on the squash court in the pentagon gym at age 28. (my mother was convinced he was killed by the government) My mother was 9 months pregnant with me at the time. Unable to attend his funeral, at Arlington Cemetery, my grandmother shunned my mother and consequently me as well. Telling her that she no longer mattered.

I came into this life fiercely defending her. I would fight her battles. My dad wasn’t a tyrant, but had a way of teasing her, and sometimes put her down. It was cloaked with sweetness though, as they were a loving couple. He was frustrated that she kept so much to herself, he’d try to bring her out.

Back on the bus. I had never seen this version of my mother. Beaming with the dreams she had of becoming a lawyer. There was a freedom around her. She seemed to be letting me know how far reaching the events from the 21st of January really are.

Women want to unite. Sisterhood is natural. The incorrect position women have had with other women, has been forced by the patriarchy. It’s gained much by keeping women apart. No more.

This collective energy is not only giving permission for all people to speak up now, but encouraging it.

To be heard

This uniting spirit is creating a safety net for expression. Or at least a fuck it- what do we have to lose. Persecution is finding healing. Women can be together without that being triggered as strongly. Now we can really do something.

My mother used to say to my sister and I that we were so powerful. Well, she was no sissy, she just never felt safe.

2015.. an 8 year!

The powerful 8 year is here, and January 1st is a one day. How cool. It’s actually a 10 day, the Wheel of Fortune. What auspicious numbers to start the year. Be prepared for opportunity. Center and get ready set go!

An 8 year will have us in a balancing act collectively. There will be a lot that will come together, and it will likely be fast and fierce. As a group, if we can come together and make adjustments in the moment when things occur before things get lost and we get distracted, we will swiftly move forward. A good thing to remember is to communicate directly and with lightning speed. Don’t get mired in minutiae, and keep things balanced. Act boldly and powerfully. Remember Ben Franklin, who warned about the danger of procrastinating. He’s a great example for this year. Check out his advice.

The last week of the year

Take some time before the new year even starts to take stock and reflect on the past year. Take a breath and exhale last year. Instead of a resolution, re-solve what is incomplete. Shining awareness here will open new possibilities.

This is a sober approach to the New Year before the champagne, so you don’t drag the old stuff with you! Instead of just hoping that things will be different or better, sit with yourself and reflect on the past year. It can be brief.

Take this opportunity, while the whole world is positioning itself, to acknowledge and remember where you’ve been, what worked, and where you realize you can do better. There may be many little things that you forgot to celebrate. You are looking at this as an observer so no judgement. With this commitment you will land right into the present moment. Just be with it all as it is. It’s like remembering scenes from a movie that you were in, and now you are watching.

Certainly write down what needs completion. You are facing yourself, and it’s very grounding. Alleviate the overwhelm and pressure of looking ahead by giving this practice its due. It’s a simple task that helps you find your own rhythm. What comes naturally is what you want to experience next year, and you can schedule and be on your way.

You can share some insights with your partner if you’d like, and see what is motivating both of you for the next year. That can be a courageous conversation.

As I did this I sat with anything that was troubling me so I could get a better perspective. So be done with it all, breath out and let go.

The Power of Visualization

by Administrator on April 1, 2009

The following Zen story illustrates third eye visioning in action. A master craftsman in ancient China was commissioned by the emperor to make a cabinet for the emperor’s bedroom in the Imperial Palace. The craftsman, a Zen monk, told the emperor he would not be able to begin work for five days. The monk was seen by the emperor’s spies simply sitting, apparently doing nothing for the entire time. Then, when five days had passed, the monk got up. Within three days, he had made the most extraordinary cabinet anyone had ever seen. The emperor was so pleased and so curious that he had the monk brought before him and asked what he had been doing the five days before he had begun his work. And this is what the monk said

  1. All the first day I spent releasing every thought of fear or failure, of dread of punishment if my work should displease the emperor.
  2. All the second day I spent releasing every thought of inadequacy and every belief that I might lack the skill to produce a cabinet worthy of the emperor.
  3. All the third day, I spent releasing every hope and desire for fame, glory and reward if I should produce a cabinet that would please the emperor
  4. All the fourth day, I spent releasing the pride that might arise in me if I should succeed in my task and earn the praise of the emperor.
  5. And all the fifth day, I spent beholding in the mind the clear vision of that cabinet which I knew even an emperor would desire, which now stands before you.

MYOB: Self Care Act

In the guide we go into scheduling 3 things in 3 weeks that nourish you. You’ll do 1! It works. How about making an appointment for something kinda big that you want to do for yourself within 3 months? I just did that. I scheduled a saltwater floatation in May. In honor of my birthday. It feels great to do it. As you help yourself others benefit. People in the service business love to put something in their books in the future. It sets the tone.

Fridays, day to recap and celebrate

So much of our time is preparation, so much is routine, and so much retrospect, that the path of a man’s genius contracts itself to a very few hours. –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Interested in traditional medicine? Folk medicine is seen as alternative, even though it’s older and stores great wisdom. We are going to look at Friday. Once upon a time, days of the week were thought of in relation to their governing planets. Friday is the day of Venus. We think of her as love, and in astrology she governs wealth in ones chart.

Here’s some lore to set yourself up for success: Get up between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. on Friday, meditate, pray, give thanks to the Goddess Lakshmi to enhance wealth.

In the tarot I equate Lakshmi with the Wheel of Fortune, so putting this into my own language… Do what ever you can to center yourself, clear yourself to be prepared for success and opportunities.

Why this? Who hasn’t had the experience of not being ready for a golden opportunity that has come knocking?

Use Friday, or any other day, just make sure you take time to do it, and clear yourself out. Complete with things and with strong intentions prepare yourself. What’s the saying about luck? Luck favors the prepared. Fortune favors the prepared mind.

Clear your own space with intention by recapping your week. Complete wherever you can. Consider what you want. You are removing anything in your thought process that is in the way of this. Free up for the weekend, and the week ahead. See what needs your attention. Then celebrate successes of the week. It’s all about the celebration.

Get Ready

Get yourself ready, and do your work. Sit in quiet contemplation, and stillness. Cast the net of your intentions beyond. See what you want.

Prepare. Rather than being a slave to worry, be a warrior to certainty. Slaying the demons as they arrive.

You alone are in charge of this. It’s time. No need to wait, you’ve been here before.

It will go how it will, yet NOW you won’t be in the way of it.

Why East West living?

It solves a problem for me. Forever I’ve been motivated and dedicated to some sort of spiritual calling, and teachings. I have taken some so literally that I’ve missed opportunities, here and now. I’ve thrown the baby out with the bathwater. Living more in those ideals. I’m aware that in the Biggest picture, you can’t miss the boat, that life keeps coming for you, trying to fulfill the desires that are propelling. What we can do is delay, get in the way, and live a life where indifference sets in. A what’s the use scenario, until we get up again and look for inspiration.

What seems to happen to spiritual seekers is eventually we draw from our own experiences and make them our own. That’s the aha moment. The moment I realized that being born a Westerner in my specific way, and the many comforts I’ve had, spared me from experiences that I didn’t have to go through, yet my soul has been so drawn to Eastern teachings, that I’ve set up more poverty scenarios than necessary. Wrong perspective.

Yes I’ve suffered from some deep sense of disenfranchisement. I didn’t always appreciate the life I’d been given and my set of circumstances didn’t force me to do anything. Nelson Mandela and Ghandi clearly knew their oppressor. It’s been more of an inside job, to dig in and actually find the bridge that needs crossing. Whom and what to follow as many oppressors are cloaked in pretty packages.

At this time on the planet, being American born has had its own very specific struggle that for some, it’s been hard to pin point. I see it here as a great experiment. Caught between so many influences. The real, ancient, traditional knowledge based cultures have been more natural to me. They haven’t been regarded, and as a result  are endangered, becoming such rare birds. I’ve studied with so many greats. I get it now that I am a bridge. I am not talking about the save the planet interest that some people have. That’s not been my thrust. I’m talking more about not wasting resources, and being on point in career and relationships. Where then you serve. Service has always been a given.

So, The Misfits Guide to East West Living. A birth. A pulling together of information. A place to visit the well of nourishment and build your business. So if you do think the planet needs saving, or you want to contribute, you will be on track to do so. If you’re under the influences of the Western mind, not quite sure what to do with yourself, and have never quite fit in yet have such a longing in your heart, you too are a rare bird. You are worth saving, and its my hunch that it’s your time to be heard.
